Know your Quotients - Behavior Science!

Sharing a very nice article read elsewhere about quotients (IQ, EQ, SQ, AQ)

According to psychologists, there are four types of Quotients:
1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ):
This is the measure of your comprehension ability; solve maths; memorize things; recall subject matters; analytical thinking

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ):
This is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others; keep time management; be responsible; be honest; respect boundaries; be humble, genuine; considerate

3. Social Quotient (SQ):
This is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time
  • People that have higher EQ (emotion) and SQ (social) tend to go farther in life than those with high IQ (intelligence) but low EQ (emotion) & SQ (social).
  • Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ & SQ are played down.
  • A man of high IQ (intelligence) can end up being employed by a man of high EQ (emotion) and SQ (social) even though he has an average IQ.
  • Your EQ (emotion) represents your CHARACTER; your SQ (social) represents your CHARISMA.
  • One should get into the habits that will improve these three Qs but more especially your EQ and SQ.
  • EQ and SQ make one manage better than the other.
  • Don't teach your children only to have a higher IQ (intelligent) but also to have higher EQ (emotion) and SQ (social).
Now there is a 4th one: A new paradigm

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ):
The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life and come out without losing your mind.

AQ (adversity) determines who will give up in face of troubles and may abandon their families.
In the current context of Corona, many professionally successful people are going through bouts of depression, because they haven't seen and thus are unprepared for Adversity.
  • Expose your children to other areas of life than only academics.
  • They should adore manual work, sport, and art.
  • Focus to develop their EQ (emotion), SQ (social) and AQ (adversity)
  • They should become multifaceted human beings
  • Able to do things independently without parents help
  • Finally, do not prepare the road for the children, prepare children for the road ahead!
Those who lack in AQ (adversity) may have any one or combination of the following tendency :
- pessimistic
- negative about life
- high temperament/hyper
- do not trust
- lack of confidence
- get into depression
- finally, suicidal tendency

A little heavy dose but meaningful for walking on the difficult road, during difficult times and different situations.

The takeaway for Investor is one must have AQ (adversity) & EQ (emotion) both.
