When provided with multiple choices, many people hesitate or become perplexed because we usually make decisions based on our emotions. 😒
✅ It is much easier to choose between the good & the bad.
❌ Yet, choosing the best from multiple good options, or the least bad from multiple worst options, is extremely difficult.
👉 LOGIC & EMOTION are 2 distinct decision-making processes.
⚡ It is generally said when in confusion listen to your HEART rather than your BRAIN. This, however, is not entirely sound advice.
Both Logic and Emotion have pros & cons.
👉 Decisions based on Logic are:
✔️ Use a conscious mind
✔️ Rely on the brain
✔️ Gather facts and analyze data
✔️ More rational and objective
✔️ The outcome is important
✔️ Slow but accurate
✔️ Impersonal
Areas where logic should take precedence over emotions: Money, investments, business, career, growth, buying, negotiation, etc.
For example, a business decision to launch a new product would be based on market research.
👉 Emotional decisions include:
✔️ Unconscious mind
✔️ Trust your heart instincts
✔️ Feelings and intuition
✔️ Relatively fast and impulsive
✔️ More personal and fulfilling wants
✔️ Irrational
Emotions should take precedence over logic in the following areas: Love, relationships, family, friends, marriage, people, communication, etc.
Relationships end when we begin to apply logic to love. ❌
People make investment decisions based on their emotions. That is why insurance policies outsell investment products. ❌
The panic exit from equity or mutual funds is another example of emotions triumphing over logic. ❌
Our inability to break bad habits such as smoking, drinking, eating junk, not exercising, procrastination, etc. is an emotional decision, even if our brain knows it is harmful to our health. ❌
Getting freebies from political parties in exchange for your vote, making impulse buying for 1+1 free, falling victim to financial fraud & scams, getting into crime, debt trap, overspending, and taking a loan just because the interest rate is free are all examples of choosing emotions over reason. ❌
When we buy something, we make an emotional decision based on our wants. It's a logical decision to buy only what we need.
For example, purchasing a high-end home, a premium car, or luxury items is an emotional decision. ❌
⚡ In fact, 95% of our purchasing decisions are based on emotions.
💎 In real life, emotions outweigh logic in our daily decisions. And it is not always a positive emotion of love & joy, but of fear, anger, anxiety, greed, shame, and many other negative emotions.
✅ When making decisions, one should always be aware of when logic should be used and when emotions should be used.
✅ In many cases, the best decision is a combination of logic and emotion, which balances both aspects to make a well-informed and satisfying decision.
💎 When making a decision, one should also consider the Timeline.
If you get instant gratification, it's likely that the decision was made emotionally, which satisfies immediate needs but may not be good in the long run.
On the other hand, if you are experiencing pain or exerting effort now, but it will benefit you in the long run, you are most likely applying logic.
✅ The goal should always be to gain long-lasting benefits, joy, or fulfillment rather than a quick-fix solution.
What do you think about when deciding whether to rely on logic or emotion?
